Sound familiar?

Around here, loose rock and old mine chat just will not stay where you put it.

  • Every dry spell kicks up fine gray dust that settles on cars, porches and screen doors.
  • One hard spring storm carves fresh ruts that stay muddy for days after the sky clears.
  • Trucks pulling in off busy roads sling gravel into the ditch and leave bare clay at the entrance.

Local conditions

Mine country soil, creeks and spring storms

Much of the county sits on the old Tri-State lead and zinc mining district, so the ground near Webb City and Oronogo can hide old shafts, fill and soft pockets. The native soil is a rocky, cherty silt loam over limestone, which drains well on high ground and holds water in low spots. Center Creek and Turkey Creek cut across the middle and south, and their bottoms stay soggy after spring rain. Summers run hot and humid, while winter brings freeze and thaw swings that push water into any open crack. Out here, a good base and the right grade matter more than the top coat.

What we see most in Jasper County

Settling over old workings

Some drives and lots near former mine fields dip as the fill under them shifts. We look for soft spots during the estimate and plan a deeper base around them.

Chat topped drives

Lots of older drives were capped with mine chat that breaks down into dust and loose grit. On its own it makes a weak base, so we check how much is there before deciding what stays.

Water trapped at the low end

Flat yards with cherty clay often hold runoff at the garage or by the road. Building in a gentle slope keeps rain moving off the surface.

Wear at busy entrances

Shop lots and business drives off Range Line Road take hard turning traffic all day. Those entry aprons need a thicker, well packed base to hold up.

The solution

Paving That Respects Mining Country

We get it. The ground in this corner of the state has a past, and you want the job done once.

You have likely raked the same ruts flat more times than you can count. Maybe a patch from years ago sank after one wet season, or the dust from your lane keeps sneaking indoors. That wears on anybody, and it is not your fault.

Trident Roads is family owned and operated, with 15 years spent laying asphalt and chip seal across Southwest Missouri. We look at every property in person, for free, before we set a price, so the plan fits your soil and the traffic you get. The finished work comes with a one year warranty.

You end up with a surface that drains, stays put and looks sharp from the street.

Benefits

What you get

A Base Sized for Your Ground

In-person site check before the quote

We look for old fill, chat and wet low spots before we plan anything. The base is then built for what is really under your drive.

Honest, Reasonable Pricing

Price set at a free on-site estimate

You hear the price and the plan face to face, after we have seen the job. Nothing gets tacked on later because somebody guessed.

A Full Year of Backing

One year warranty on the work

If something we built is not right during that first year, call us. We will come back and make it right.

How it works

3 simple steps

  1. Step 1

    Call or send the form

Ring (816) 375-1940 or fill out the quote form on this page. We pick a weekday to visit your property and hand you a free on-site estimate.

  2. Step 2

    We grade, pack and pave

The crew shapes the base so water runs off, packs it tight, then lays hot asphalt or chip seal to match the plan you approved.

  3. Step 3

    Park on firm ground

Your cars, work trucks and trailers roll onto a clean surface that sheds rain instead of trapping it by the garage.

  • Carl Junction
  • Sarcoxie
  • Oronogo
  • Duenweg
  • Jasper

Typical projects here

  • Home driveways in Joplin and Webb City

  • Business parking lots near I-44
  • RV park loops and camper pads
  • Chip seal for long rural drives near the Spring River
  • Shop and equipment yards off I-49

Our recommendation

In town, asphalt paving is usually the right call for home drives and business lots, since it gives a clean, firm surface for daily cars and delivery trucks. Out on long lanes toward Sarcoxie or the Spring River bottoms, chip seal tends to fit better, covering more ground for less money in most cases while giving tires good grip. Along old Route 66, plenty of properties mix the two. We will show you both options at the free estimate.

FAQ

Jasper County questions

Still have questions? Call (816) 375-1940. We pick up.

Can you pave over an old chat driveway in Joplin?+

Often, yes, but it depends on how deep the chat is and how well it has packed. Chat tends to break down into fine grit over time, so we dig in and check it during the free estimate. Sometimes it works under fresh base rock, and sometimes it has to come out first.

My property sits near the old mine fields. Is that a problem for paving?+

Ground over old workings can settle, and nobody can see far below the surface. What we can do is spot dips, cracks and soft areas and build a heavier base where they show up. If a spot looks too unstable to pave, we will tell you so plainly.

Is asphalt or chip seal better for a farm lane near Carthage?+

For a long lane that sees tractors and stock trailers, chip seal is usually the better value because it grips well and covers a lot of distance. Asphalt tends to make more sense close to the house or shop, where you want a smooth, clean finish. Plenty of owners use both.

Do you work in Webb City, Carl Junction and Sarcoxie?+

Yes. We serve the whole county, from those towns to Oronogo, Duenweg and the rural roads in between. Call or use the form and we will set up a time to come out.

What time of year is best for paving here?+

Asphalt and chip seal both need warm, dry days to cure well, so late spring through early fall is the usual window. Cold snaps and long wet stretches can push a start date back. We work Monday through Friday and settle the timing with you at the estimate.
